#WeBelieveSurvivors

The Ghomeshi trial brought about many triggering and traumatic feelings for sexual assault survivors, women and community members alike.

The day of the verdict (March 24, 2016), a rally was organized at Toronto’s Old City Hall with an amazing line-up of women speakers including Krysten Wong-Tam, Leah and Tessa from We Give Consent, Lucy Decouture and our very own Arij Elmi.

The procession marched down to College Park in the rain and cold, to feel the sense of community and solidarity happening at Black Lives Matter Toronto Tent City. We sang, we danced and we cried, but we did it together and everyone decided that we still have lots of work to do to bring justice to the court system for survivors of sexual assault.

Thank you to the rally organizers, the Centre for Women and Trans People, and Farrah Khan (through the Office of Sexual Violence Support and Education at Ryerson University).
