Who we are: Wen-Do Women’s Self-Defence offers a women-only training space to women and girls aged 10 and up. This includes cis and trans women and girls of all abilities. We reinforce the positive aspects of the ways that girls and women deal with the threat and experience of violence in our lives. We do not issue a list of “do”s and “don’t”s, but rather share practical and factual information within a feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression framework.
What to expect on this workshop: We facilitate discussions that involve the breaking down and debunking of victim-blaming stereotypes and myths that surround women’s self-defence. We offer factual and resource-rich discussions about abuse, harassment, and assault within a patriarchal society. Women will have the opportunity to learn and practice physical and verbal self-protection skills and strategies that cover a range of dangerous and/or uncomfortable situations.
Considerations for online training: These physical techniques will be presented online with the understanding that some women may be sitting or sometimes standing at their computer and so we will be encouraging students to do only what is emotionally comfortable and physically safe for their bodies.
Important: Students should know in advance of the need for privacy and confidentiality while our class is in session. Women taking this online workshop must ensure that they have a room with a door that will close, or that they are alone in their residence.
